Inspiring Positive Change at Bailes Community Academy
To inspire positive change through teaching and coaching, IDEAS for Us, 15 Lightyears Foundation and Orlando Community Partners will be bringing together trainers and volunteers to help creating a healthier, more sustainable learning environment by building an outdoor garden and learning space at Bailes Community Academy. This space will promote the growth and presence of the school in the community. The Lightyear Learning Project presents the perfect example of an opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to come together as one and act in a more participative way in the community and demonstrate that “where we learn matters!”
Phase 1 of this project has already been complete where a garden structure was built and as the plants grow so will the space. Phase 2 of this project is to install a self-sustaining solar irrigation system.
Here’s a quick summary of what we will learn in the process:
Basics of Solar PV, with a focus on off grid systems
How to source necessary materials
Components of off grid solar systems
Types of Solar Panels
Wiring
Charge Controllers
Batteries
Mounting Equipment
Waterproofing
How to size your system, types of panels
Basics of irrigation
Electrical Basics and Installation
And out to the field we went and successfully completed a full day of teaching, training, installing and enjoying seeing this project come to fruition with the collaboration of great people, who are invested in leaving a better tomorrow for future generations!
